Dr Rowena E Archer will give a talk about the rise and fall of Alice Chaucer in The institute – doors open at 7.15 pm and the talk starts a 7.30 pm. Alice Chaucer, Duchess of Suffolk was the granddaughter of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer. She was born a commoner but died a duchess and is buried in a magnificent tomb in Ewelme Church.
Sir Tony Baldry will give a talk in Church House at 7.00 pm about his experiences as Chair of the Church Buildings Council and latterly as Second Church Estates Commissioner. He will also give his views about the future of church buildings and the future of the Church of England. His talk will be followed by a Question and Answer session. Blue balloons, bottles, cans, all non-alcoholic, as well as wrist bands saying CR leavers so assume Year 6 had a Christopher Rawlins leaving party. It’s such a shame as the bin on The Green is only partially filled. It would be good if they came back to clear up the litter or perhaps their parents might do it!
Several golf balls have recently landed in paddocks and gardens near The Leys. A golf ball struck from the nearby public footpath or rough ground can easily reach houses, horses, walkers and neighbouring property. So far nobody has been hurt, but it is only a matter of luck. If you enjoy practising your golf swing, please choose somewhere safe and appropriate. A polite request from local residents: please don’t use this area as an unofficial driving range.
