Adderbury Storm to Record Win – Youth Prevails!

On a glorious afternoon at the equally glorious Banbury Cricket Club two sides of assorted capabilities from Adderbury and Milton took the field to vie for the 32nd time for the coveted Millennium Trophy. We were joined by a good number of Adderbury/Milton supporters hoping to see us retain the trophy, including our old vicar Stephen Fletcher and his wife– thank you all for coming!
Milton set a very challenging target of 182 from 35 overs, with a firm foundation from skipper Stanley (26) and the middle Flemming (15) – then enter young Will Fletcher (remember him? – son of the vicar and keeping up the family tradition with his healthy paunch) with a classic 50 not out. Then Pete Langman 31* and Reagan Botham 28 set about Adderbury bowling with only Chris Hammond 2-28 stemming the flow, despite old Tom Holland’s 1-35.
So was that too big a target?? Did the varied Adderbury batting line-up have the necessary skills? Well we didn’t get to see much of it as Adderbury youth took over with undefeated 50’s from Arthur Walker (15) and Simon Lee (13) with a delightful display of classic batting. Star all-rounder Chris Hammond finished it off with 29 not out along with Archie McCusker’s blast of 10 not out for a record 8 wicket victory with 4 overs to spare
The pick of the Milton bowling was ex-Adderbury Stores favourite Terry Singh with 2-45 – it was good to see him back.
But the real winner was village cricket, played in the true spirit of the game and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Hat trick for Adderbury next year??

This fixture has been running since 1995. Milton Cricket has been going a bit longer than that, helping to fill the gap after the sad demise of Adderbury cricket in the early 90’s.
