Adderbury History Association – 21 September
Dr Rowena E Archer will give a talk about the rise and fall of Alice Chaucer in The institute – doors open at 7.15 pm and the talk starts a 7.30 pm. Alice Chaucer, Duchess of Suffolk was the granddaughter of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer. She was born a commoner but died a duchess and is buried in a magnificent tomb in Ewelme Church. The story of her marriages, arts patronage and management of her estates is a remarkable tale of resilience and determination. Dr Archer is a medieval historian and a Fellow and lecturer at Brasenose College and a lecturer at Christ Church. Visitors welcome at £5.00.
