Keep Dogs on a Lead

The Parish Council has been requested to kindly remind those who use footpaths which are routed across fields, to ensure that dogs are always on a lead if there is also livestock in the fields.  Dogs chasing pregnant ewes can cause them to miscarry if they are frightened and/or chased by dogs.  Please always pick up dog waste too and dispose of it in a dog waste bin or at home.

  • So glad they put a twenty mile per hour limit on Twyford Road, down from thirty, people are very good at trying to keep to it,the speed has definitely dropped from about sixty mph ,down to about ,fifty nine now, thanks to all.

  • I totally agree with Parish Council regarding keeping dogs on leads and picking up after your dog.

What is the matter with people.
The PCC have put up 3 signs in the churchyard asking for all dogs to be kept on the lead in the churchyard and to pick up after their dogs.
Someone has deliberately removed those signs.
The churchyard is not a park it is a place where loved ones are buried and should be treated with respect. not to have dogs running around.

    Please please have some respect.

    • The main path across the churchyard is a public footpath and as such, signs stating that dogs must be on a lead are potentially illegal since they could be seen as discouraging people from exercising their legal rights .

Similarly on footpaths across fields, dog owners are legally required to keep their dogs under “close control” but this does not mean they have to be on a lead. So again any signs to this effect could potentially be seen as discouraging use of a public footpath and illegal.

However asking people to pick up after their dog is quite correct both legally and morally.

      • Ok, you are absolutely right, however, still some dog owners don’t pick up after their animals. Surely with it being a public path, everyone including most children that maybe not observant as some, are free to walk without stepping in this excrement. This can / may cause severe illness.
