Adderbury History Association

The June meeting of Adderbury History Association proved very popular as we listened to reminiscences of life in the village from those who were brought up here.  There was a chance to find out about the shops and pubs which have disappeared, the traces of the Banbury – Cheltenham railway line, the coming of the M40 in the 1980s and how Church House, now a welcoming library, was once a damp and chilly school room. It is hoped to run a similar event next year, but meanwhile you can find a wealth of material on the AHA website on topics including Adderbury Lakes, Twyford Tea Gardens, Quaker Clockmakers of Adderbury, Adderbury Morris, the Paper Mill and a History of the street names of Adderbury and Twyford. Click on Historical Miscellany to find out what you never knew about Adderbury and Twyford! Go to Clubs and  Societies /History on the left panel here – or go directly to www.historyofadderbury.co.uk

  • This was a really good evening. It was good to see Nick Allen and Barry Davis there among so many others.
The room was buzzing with so many memories and could easily have gone on for much , much longer! Probably for another couple of days!
Well done to Jill, Roz and the team for organising it, here’s to the next one.
