ROD ROBERTS’ GARDENING CLUB SHOW REPORT
My thanks to the following: Andy, Cheryl, Gilly, Janet, Sandra, and Sue for their efforts and enthusiasm. Thanks also to Peter, Carole and Sheila for freely giving their time to judge the exhibits and support our efforts. To the exhibitors for “having a go” and to the villagers and friends, who came, to view their efforts. Try it for yourself next year
The Judges commented that as usual the standard on offer was very high. We had 18 adult entries producing 151 exhibits. We had two Junior exhibitors one even entered the main classes, was awarded a first place, beating his grandfather into second place.
The flower arranging classes were much improved and there was a good showing in most classes. The domestic classes were also better than last year and the quality, excellent. Although most of our exhibitors are ladies, David Hughes is still trying to win the trophy. Most holders of Michelin Stars are men, so “Gentlemen, of Adderbury” don your aprons for next year.
The biggest disappointment again this year was the Junior Classes, there were only 2 exhibitors. The classes are in the main based around arts and crafts, and baking so no real gardening skills are required. It also keeps them off the iPhone and laptop for a few hours.
The Show Secretary welcomed everyone and introduced Diane Bratt, Chair of the Parish Council, who said a few words of encouragement about the show and its place within the Village. She then presented The Millennium Cup, for the Best Allotment, to Adam Hiles and Carla Novak and Highly Commended Certificates to several other allotment holders.

Thanks to the Parish Council for a grant towards our expenses, the profits made will pay for two of the Speakers at our meetings. The show is always supported by the village the turn out this year’s was marvellous; we hope to see you all again in 2026.
Congratulations to Andy Wheeler who was again our overall Champion, to Avril French for “Best in Show”, to young George who beat his grandfather Andy in one of the classes, and to all the other prize winners. Thank you to all the exhibitors, especially those 1st Timers, I hope you return next year and give Andy a run for the money.
Our show, is just for Club members and the villagers of Adderbury, Twyford and Milton, we don’t take it too seriously, it’s a fun show. There are rules and notes to help novice exhibitors, but you know what they say about rules, ours are pretty flexible, those who participate say they enjoy the experience.
If you don’t grow or bake, come along and see what’s on offer, spend a pleasant hour, chat with friends and neighbours, have a drink and sample our exceedingly good cakes.
Help us keep it going, put Saturday 29th August 2026 in your diary. Pick up a Schedule from Adderbury Stores, the Library or download a copy from the Adderbury web-site, when they come out in April.
Please!! Give it a try next year.
Thank you for your continued support,
Show Secretary and Hon.Treasurer.
