Have you been caught up in the recent excitement of the Commonwealth Games on The Gold Coast? The England netball team, the Roses, were victorious and took the gold medal home after nailbiting semis and a breathtaking final against Australia who have been unbeaten for what seems like forever!! The Roses have been fighting for the top position in recent years but have never gained it until now.
Many people have been newly excited by netball as a spectator sport and in recent years England netball has launched a nationwide back to netball scheme that has been hugely successful in boosting local team numbers and encouraging ladies and girls to play for fun and fitness.
You may not know that there is a flourishing netball community in our area. Adderbury Angels are our own village team originally made up around eight years ago by school mums who had not played netball since their own school days. Some of those original players still remain, and even bring their own daughters along to training sessions, and they have been joined by further enthusiastic netballers of all ages. We train once a week in preparation for term time Sunday matches in the local Cherwell and District league, currently held at Warriner School in Bloxham.
Summer outdoor training is held at Bloxham Primary School each Wednesday evening between 7.00 pm and 8.00 pm and winter indoor sessions are at Banbury School .
If you are interested in playing the fun sport of netball do come along to a training session to give it a try, we welcome new players and we range in age from teenagers to those of us in our fifties! Taster training sessions are £3 per person, if you decide to join we have a monthly club charge of £7.50.
