Fake Government Grants Fraud Alert

Individuals and businesses are being warned to watch out for cold calls and online contact from fraudsters who are offering victims the opportunity to apply for Government grants for an advance fee.
To make the grants look legitimate fraudsters have set up bogus companies and convincing looking websites that claim to be operating on behalf of the UK Government.

Phone Scam

We are receiving reports from members of the public, who have received calls from people claiming to be from the HMRC. The calls are coming from 020 numbers and claim that arrest warrants have been sent out for Tax Fraud. Be advised that this is a scam, please do not engage or relay any personal details to these callers. If you have elderly or vulnerable relatives, please make them aware. Hidden Harm?

Last week Thames Valley Police (TVP) launched their Hidden Harm campaign urging everyone to ‘open their eyes to abuse’.

Over the next 18 months they will be raising awareness of different types of abuse hidden in the heart of our communities in Thames Valley. The first focus of the campaign is modern slavery.

In the past two years TVP have recorded 120 modern slavery crimes across our area but they say that many more go unreported.

Thames Valley Police is warning residents in Cherwell & West Oxfordshire to be wary of unexpected telephone calls, claiming to be from banks or the police.
Recent calls have been received by residents in the area, claiming to be from a bank, or a police officer, asking for cash payments

Fraudsters Selling non-existent Drones
