On Saturday Manor Road was heaving with automobile nuts arriving to view the auction of the late Charles Swain’s fabulous collection of vintage cars and various other automobilia.
And the sale did not disappoint, with a vibrant atmosphere and some healthy bidding, and lots being knocked down to a mix of visiting and local enthusiasts in the marquee, on the phone and of course on the internet.
Top prices went to the magnificent 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom 11 with barrel-sided tourer coachwork (pictured) which sold for £100,000, and Charles’s personal run-about a beautiful powder blue 2001 Rolls Royce Corniche convertible sports tourer sold for £95,000.
Surprisingly, the only unsold lot was everyone’s favourite, the beautiful 1939 red and black Alvis 4.3 litre sports tourer which had been estimated at £160,000.
Despite this, the auction sale totalled over £350,000. Click on Gallery to see more photos.
